What Is Indirect Wealth (偏财) in BaZi?

Indirect Wealth (偏财, abbreviated IW in Yixin Academy's system) is the element that your Day Master controls, in opposite polarity. Where Direct Wealth (DW) represents earned, structured income, IW represents irregular, windfall, or investment-derived wealth. It is wealth that arrives unexpectedly or through less conventional means.

What Does IW Indicate in a BaZi Chart?

IW in a BaZi chart represents financial magnetism, investment acumen, a tendency to attract money through social relationships, and often a love of spending as much as earning. IW individuals may be generous to the point of extravagance — they attract wealth easily but may not always hold it.

IW also represents the father in a chart (for both men and women) in traditional BaZi analysis, and for women it can represent a partner who is sociable, generous, and possibly involved in business or investment. Context within the full chart is always essential.

IW and Business

IW is strongly associated with entrepreneurship, sales, trading, and any business model that involves variable income. IW people are often natural salespeople and networkers who can generate money through personality and relationship capital. Investment, property, and financial markets are also classic IW domains.

IW and Risk

The other side of IW's windfall nature is susceptibility to financial volatility. IW in an unfavourable configuration can indicate financial recklessness, losses through speculation, or a cycle of making and losing money. Chart analysis is needed to determine whether IW in a specific chart is a blessing or a challenge.
