How these dates are chosen
The almanac splits what modern renovation lumps together. Starting construction (修造) favours 开 (Open) days; repair and levelling work favours 平 (Balance) days; but breaking ground (动土) is taboo on 建 (Establish) days and any digging is taboo on 平 days. Curiously, 破 (Destroy) days — avoided for everything else — are classically suitable for demolition. If your renovation begins with hacking, the traditional answer differs from the day you begin fitting out.
